Why can't I launch Skanect on my Mac?
We have recently discovered an issue where MacOS is flagging Skanect as malware. Upon investigation, we have discovered this is related to stolen Nvidia signing certificates that were used to sign malware which have since been rejected by Apple. We have patched this issue. Please download Skanect for Mac 1.11.1 below.
Starting with MacOS 10.7.5, Apple has released a new tool called Gatekeeper, which is aimed at keeping your computer safe.
Software that has not been signed and notarized through Apple specifically will elicit the above warning.
While the intention of Gatekeeper is to ensure users do not accidentally run malicious software, it has also made it so that other third party software, such as Skanect, can appear malicious. Fortunately, there are two very easy ways to allow Skanect an exception.
Method One
- Right click/two finger click on the Skanect icon. This will open a menu like so:
-
Click "Open". This will bring up a second pop up.
-
Click "Open" in the pop up. This will create a permanent exception for Skanect in Gatekeeper, and you won't need to do this again!
Method 2
- Open System Preferences.
- Click "Security and Privacy".
-
lick "General" and then click the lock. Enter your system password to enable changes.
-
lick "Open Anyway".
-
lick "Open" in the alert window. This will create a permanent exception for Skanect in Gatekeeper, and you won't need to do this again!
