Structure Sensor 3: What are the LED light codes?

The LED light indicators on your Structure Sensor 3 can help you understand the sensor’s current status, whether it’s powered on, calibrating, charging, or experiencing an error.

Use this guide to identify the meaning behind each LED sequence, and follow any recommended actions to ensure optimal performance of your sensor.

Healthy Light Sequences

Connected to SDK

Idle

Solid Blue Light

Sensor is connected to Apple device

Low Battery

Solid Yellow Light

Battery is getting too low to stream

Connected to iOS / Host

Idle

Blinking Blue Light

Sensor is connected to Apple device

Low Battery

Blinking Yellow Light

Battery is getting too low to stream

Connected to Charger

Full Battery

Solid Blue Light

100% battery, Charging finished

Mid Battery

Sine Pulse Blue Light

Charged enough to use but not 100%

Low Battery

Sine Pulse Yellow Light

Charging, but not enough to use

Firmware Light Sequences

Updating Firmware

Rainbow Light

While your sensor's firmware is updating the LED light will cycle through all the colors. Do not disconnect the sensor or close the app until the update is complete.

Outdated Firmware

Solid Green Light

Firmware .9- 1.0 will display a green light if the sensor is connected to a PC. If the green light displays while connected to an iPad or iPhone update the sensor's firmware with the Structure app.

Unhealthy Light Sequences

Laser Fault

Solid Red Light

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and then display a solid red light. This means that the sensor's laser has been disrupted somehow. In most cases, cleaning the glass plate thoroughly, unplugging the sensor, and plugging it back in with sufficient space between the sensor and an object will reset this fault.

The sensor will display this light sequence if the projector is blocked, giving the impression the sensor is faulty. First ensure nothing is directly in front of the projector before assuming defect. Remove the plastic cover if still attached. Next, gently clean the glass plate of any smudges.

System Fault

Blinking Red Light (2 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red twice, pause, then blink twice again, and repeat.

Firmware update failed

Blinking Red Light (3 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red three times, pause, then repeat.

If your sensor displays this light sequence when attempting to update the firmware, force close the Structure app and try to update the firmware again.

Firmware Corrupt

Blinking Red Light (4 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red four times, pause, then repeat.

Calibration / Prod data corrupt

Blinking Red Light (5 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red five times, pause, then repeat.

MCU Watchdog

Blinking Red Light (6 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red six times, pause, then repeat.

MCU i2c failed

Blinking Red Light (7 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red seven times, pause, then repeat.

This light sequence will occur if the communication to charger or eeprom failed.

Voltage Fault

Blinking Red Light (8 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red eight times, pause, then repeat.

This light sequence occurs if there is a fault with the battery. To troubleshoot, connect the sensor to the Structure app and update the firmware.

NU4k i2c failed

Blinking Red Light (9 Blinks)

When plugged into a power source, your sensor will initialize and blink red nine times, pause, then repeat.

This light sequence occurs when communication to the iap2 chip or camera fails.
